  • Proud Parents Moment!!

    Proud Parents Moment!!

As many of you know, Lauri (where Sophia’s daycare provider) enrolled Sophia in the preschool curriculum at an earlier age then she does for most of her kids. One of the things that Sophia has been learning is her name, spelling it, what letters are in it and most recently writing her name. Well when Nate picked her up from Lauri’s on Tuesday, this was included in her take home paperwork.

We had a HUGE proud parent moment! She is SOO smart! For 2 1/2 its pretty awesome she can write her name like this so well! Plus if you ask her how to spell her name, she will say ” S, O, P, H, I J – she can spell it all except the last letter, which Nate I think is because she knows J comes after I in the alphabet. Again, that’s pretty awesome we think!

  • FIRST haircut… well trim!

As most everyone knows, Sophia’s hair doesn’t exceed in the growing department. Its long enough to fit in pigtails, other then that there isnt much left. However, I have noticed lately that her few “baby” hairs go down to her nose and she was constantly pushing them to the side or wanting to wear a barrette- which didnt stay in long due to not enough hair. So we decided to take her to kids cuts and get her first hair cut, well bang trim. I was beyond excited about this new milestone, and i was completly let down! The service was POOR, the lady forcefully strapped Soph in her seat and while Soph was screaming.

She then cut her hair and walked away. Leaving Nate and I to take off the drape and me trying to find a piece of hair to keep! Mind you I did let them know prior this was her first hair cut, and they didn’t seem to mind. I was so disappointed, and I will not be going back there for her first actual haircut, when she is 15 probably! (haha, kidding)

Nate and I did take it upon ourselves as well to offer Sophia a sucker for getting her first haircut, because again they never offered this! Once she had the sucker she was beyond happy with her new haircut.

She no longer looks like a little girl, she looks so grown up. And she loves her bangs!

  • Big Girl.

It happened. Sophia is now a big girl, her personality coming out in full bloom! Making decisions on her own, accomplishing tasks on her own, helping out mommy & daddy all the time now,  and also being very smart in regards to her ABC’s, 123’s and many many songs.

Since she turned two, we thought it was best for a variety of reasons to take away the “nukie” (as she calls it). I was nervous, sad and anxious all in one. Sophia was no longer a baby, no strings left that tied her to being a baby, she was officially a BIG girl. We decided it would be best to take away her nukie on the weekend in case a fight ensued. Well Friday, September 30th 2011 came and i cut her nukie officially “breaking” it.

Nate and I discussed prior that this would be the best route to take since we both tried for weeks to get her to give her nukie to the babies since she was a big girl. Being as smart as she is she always had a way to finagle her way around that. We couldn’t throw it because she knew where to find new ones, so we decided it would be best if it “broke”.  After I cut her nukie I showed it to her and said, “uh oh Sophie your nukie broke.” She came running over looked at it and said, “its broke?”  And that was it. That night she went to bed only asking for it once, and we again reiterated that her nukie was broke and she went to bed with no fuss and no fights. Phew!!!  The weekend was good for bedtime, our only problem was nap time in which she didn’t want to nap at all! That was a week and a half ago and she has only asked for it one other time and in the same time stated that it was broken.

She is now a big girl! YAY & 🙁 ..Time goes to fast..

  • HAPPY 2nd BIRTHDAY BABY!!

Today is such a bittersweet day. Our little girl is now 2, it was her day today. I took the day off and we spent the day doing what she wanted (under supervision of course)

We started the morning with some cereal of her choosing for breakfast then she got to enjoy some of her new birthday toys.

    Playing the drums

We then got ready and stopped at my work to drop off somethings, headed to Mcd’s for lunch- her choosing and stopped at Gpa & Gma M’s to hang out. We then headed home and went for a walk in her new wagon.

For dinner we decided to take her somewhere fun! We went to Space Aliens with the whole family and let me tell you she did NOT like the alien! I cant blame her though cause the get up was about 6ft high with a huge head and not very pleasant! She did get to play some arcade games for the first time and that was hilarious, but she had fun! There was times throughout the day where she did sort of milk it by saying, “my birthday”! Yes baby girl, it is your birthday!

One day when she is older I am going to tell her, her birth story and how she made me a mama, how she made me the happiest mama in the whole world. We love you baby!

  • Come and Play.. Where everything’s A-ok

On our way to Sophia’s SECOND birthday party!!

I am not normally the “crafty” type, but I loved planning my girls party! I loved putting together all the cupcake toppers, thank you favor tags, putting together the goodie bags and setting up all the decorations! This party was all Sesame Street themed if you haven’t gathered from the heading and the invite, there was Sesame Street everywhere and Sophia loved every last bit of it.

    The Decorations:

    The entire set up
    Dorothy's Goldfish (goldfish crackers)
    Cookie's Monster cookies
Baby Bear's Graham Crackers (teddy grahams)
Bert's chips / Ernie's salsa.. Photo frame made by a friends sister
Big Bird's Pickle Dip (pickle roll up dip)
Abby's Cupcakes- turned out soo good!
Elmo Birthday Cake!! Party Favors: Birthday favors that everyone got

    Party Favors:

    Birthday favors that everyone got

**Funny store about the cake, most everyone knows that Sophia DOES NOT like anything sweet AT ALL! At most she will have is M&M’s – however we thought she would still try the cake since she loves Elmo, we were wrong. She did love the cake, and we sang her Happy Birthday not once but twice per her request- and she still would NOT touch the cake :(**

    Happy 2nd Birthday Baby!
    Sophia's Horsey from Gma & Gpa M.

We also rented Sophia a bouncy house (because she is fearless and LOVES these things) and you guessed it, it was Sesame Street!

    Bouncing away!

Cousin Sawyer, "do, do" having fun!
    Enjoying the bounce house

The best part of the day- the part that grips my heart for a tear-willing second is watching my baby girl smile with happiness when friends/family started arriving and as she had fun playing with each and every one of them. Her birthday was a blast and we thank you to everyone that came out and helped celebrate with us.

Here is a picture to end the evening- she is recently into dressing up and is loving her new Strawberry Shortcake.

  • Labor Day Firsts..

Over the Labor Day weekend Sophia experienced TWO firsts! It will never get old watching the expression on your child’s face when they try something for the first time- it is funny, amazing, exciting and sad all in one!

One of her firsts was eating corn on the cob for the first time. Normally when we eat corn on the cob we cut it off then give it to her, however this time she was insistent on eating my corn on the cob, so i let her try it. Needless to say I did not get it back.

Her next first was an early Birthday present from Nate & I. Sophia had been asking for a bike since her cousins have one, so we took her to the store and let her pick it out. She also got to pick out her helmet (Abbi, pink & purple of course). She was a pro, already knowing how to pedal and turn it. Here is our girl on her new bike!

  • Little Miss chatterbox!

It seems as if over night Sophia has become such a chatter box- and we LOVE it! She went from saying some words, probably over 25 to speaking sentences. It is so crazy! I know that we say this all the time, but she is such a smart little girl. We compiled a list of the words she says- remind you she uses all these words in sentences now as well.

People: Mama, Daddy, Grandpa (Mee-apa), Grandma (Mee-ama), Meeka (Neena), Baby, Zada, Cole, James (Me), Lauri, Julia (Ju-Ju), Roman, Jake, Levi (Weevi).

Food: Blueberry, Strawberry, Cheese, Juice, Milk, Jello (yeello), Cracker, Banana, Cookie

Colors: Yellow, Blue, Purple, Green, Orange

Misc: I love you, Night Night, Please, I good, Hungry, Hi, Bye Bye, Outside, No, Yes, Cold, Hot, Puppy, Blanket, Cry, Eat, Sorry, Shoe, Pretty, Blanket, Potty, Ishy (shishy), Booger (booby), Mine, Ouch, Puzzle, Read, Book, Socks, Jacket, Uh Oh, “There it is”, Up, Ball and All Done, “oh no”, “oh man”.

Body Parts: Nose, Eye, Mouth, Ear, Cheeks, Hair, Toe, Butt and Teeth.. (she knows where all body parts are but just cant say them all yet 🙂 …)

Sign Language:  All Done, More, Hungry and she is just learning I love you.

And since she LOVES Elmo and we watch Sesame Street she knows the characters names. She knows: Elmo, Abbi, Big Bird, Cookie, Grover and Ernie (Nernie).

This is just a list of words that we could recall her saying, and this list is ever expanding! We both really love and enjoy hearing her vocabulary expand, even if it does come with the occasionally NO! We are having so much fun watching her learn and grow. Being parents to Sophia, is the BEST thing we could have ever asked for!

    Pictures to come..

  • 18 month well child visit…

We are biased parents, I am sure, but Sophia did amazing again at her well child visit. Her vocabulary is increasing ten fold and she is showing interest in potty training as well. We are encouraging this, but are letting her be interested at her own pace. The doctor said she is advanced for showing interest in potty training and its a great sign! She also suggested using flash cards with Sophia to help with distinguishing colors, shapes and incorporate more words. So, Nate and I purchased some Sesame Street flash cards, that she loves!!

This visit Sophia got one shot and did ok, but hey who likes shots?!

    18 month stats:

27lbs 13oz. She is still in the 75th-80th percentile for her weight and height. Her head is also still measuring in the 90th percentile.

  • 15 month well child visit..

We had Sophia’s 15 month well child visit and once again she did so good! We have an amazing pediatrician that does so good with kids and she continues to be surprised by Sophia’s development in both gross and fine motor skills and her ever expanding vocabulary! She now says well over 10 words, is learning colors, animal sounds and can say two. Some words she says now are: Hi, bye, more, please, elmo (her favorite), shoe, mamma, daddy, juice, hungry, all done and baby. I am sure there is more she knows, but  these are the main ones that are understandable. She knows what a kitty says and what a cow says. We have also been teaching her sign language and she knows more, bath and all done. She knows everything that we are saying and ask, its just her learning to enunciate the words. She does say the words but they aren’t too understandable yet. We have a very smart little girl on our hands!

    15 month stats:

24 lbs 13oz and 31 inches long. She is in the 75th-80th percentile for both. Her head as always measures in the 90th percentile and she can thank her mommy for that 🙂 !

  • 1 year doctor visit & 1 year pictures..

Sophia had her one year doctor visit.. This comes with mixed emotions. We get to see how great our girl is doing in gross/fine motor skills, as well as her vocabulary. The negative side is that with this visit comes the dreaded shots. Nate never wants to be the one to help hold her down, so i get stuck doing it and watching and seeing her scream is the worst feeling in the world. I know I have to endure it though, because the benefits of the vaccinations outweigh me feeling horrible for making her cry. The doctor said Sophia is advanced for her age in fine/motor skills and also her vocabulary. She was amazed at everything Sophia is able to do, and so are we 🙂

    1 year stats:  21lbs 3oz, 29inches long.. 75% percentile in both..

And on a side note, I found out no shots at her 1 year visit! yay!! The next shots are at her 15 month visit.

We also took Sophia to get her 1 year photos taken at Angela’s again. Angela is such an awesome photographer. She is great with kids and takes the best pictures ever. Here are a few of our favorites..
